PCS Pay It Forward Stories

This year, rather than nominate and select a single (or two) charities, we’ve elected to “do-good” in our local community – or wherever our travels may take us during this holiday period.  For your enjoyment, and inspiration, we’re sharing some of our pay-it-forward activities below.  Enjoy.

Up In The Sky

During four recent flights I probably assisted five women or elderly travelers with putting their heavy carry-on bags into the overhead bins.

Airport Seat

I was at the airport gate awaiting my flight when an older couple exited the plane before me.  The gentleman was in a wheel chair and his wife was using a walker.  The airline attendant put them next to me explaining that it would be several minutes before he could escort them to baggage claim.  After a moment, it appeared that the woman was looking for a place to sit, and it also appeared that she was going to leave her husband to do so.  I gave up my seat for her and she was most appreciative.

Sponsoring Children

Sponsor a child, with your child.  Through Children International (www.children.org) you can sponsor children from all over the world.  You become involved with the life of your sponsored child through regular updates and even exchange personal letters and photos.  Its a great way to teach your own children about grace, caring, generosity,and world cultures. My daughter and I have sponsored Jessica for eight years now.  Jessica lives in Quito, Ecuador and is the same age as my daughter.

100% Tip

The last two times I went out to eat I left a 100% tip.

Drive-Thru

In the drive-thru window at McDonald's, I paid for the order of the person behind me.

Gift Basket

I was involved in gathering and purchasing items for a co-worker who has been taking care of their family due to tragic events in their lives. Many of us got together to give a "just thinking of you" basket. Giving that gift was so rewarding. The person was very grateful, but it did more for us than the person.

Police Officers

Two police officers were in line behind me, and I motioned for the person at the register to ring their purchases up but don't charge them. She knew me so knew I would pay after they left. They were very appreciative and had huge smiles on their faces when they left.

Mission Trip

Our church was sending several people on a mission trip to Italy, my husband and I donated a sum of money to help a person who otherwise may not have been able to go. The trip was a huge success and the person we helped was forever changed!

Parking Meters

On Saturday, November 15, 2014 I walked around downtown Nashville and inserted quarters into any parking meter that appeared to be nearing expiration.

Blood Donation

I scheduled a time with the Red Cross to donate blood in two weeks (December 1, 2014 in Nashville).

Opening Doors

All last week (as always) I opened and held doors to our building for anyone entering or leaving.
