Complete the application including 2x2 photo.
Have graduated from an accredited school in Embalming and in Funeral Directing.
Have completed at least two years of apprenticeship.
Submit a copy of Apprentice License.
Have a certified copy of passing National Board Exam results sent directly from the International Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards to PCS
Send payment of the specified fees.
Pass the State exam.
Embalmed at least 50 bodies.

Step 1. Applicant completes and submits application. (The application requires Adobe. Adobe Acrobat Reader is available free of charge.

Step 2. PCS reviews application for completeness.

PCS will notify applicant if the application is incomplete.

PCS forwards completed applications and supporting documents to the MA State Board for approval.
Step 3. The Board reviews applications and determines eligibility.

Board notifies applicants who are deemed ineligible.

Board notifies PCS of eligible applicants.
Step 4. PCS sends an Approval Letter to eligible applicants with instructions on how to pay the examination fee. Step 5. Applicant pays examination fee. Step 6. PCS sends paid applicant an Authorization letter with scheduling instructions. Applicants have until the expiration date indicated on the Authorization letter to take and pass both examinations at an authorized testing center. Applicants that do not pass the examinations within this period must re-apply with PCS. To request special accommodations, additional documentation is required.
Step 7. Applicants with an Authorization Letter will call PSI to schedule the computer-based examination.
Step 8. Applicant tests.
Step 9. PCS will notify candidates of their pass/fail status.

Passed candidates will be provided with instructions on the swearing-in ceremony before the Board.

Unsuccessful candidates will receive their score notice and rescheduling information (telephone registration).
Step 10. Applicant attends swearing-in ceremony.
Step 11. Board notifies PCS of sworn-in candidates.
Step 12. Sworn-in candidates will contact PCS to pay for their license.
Step 13. License numbers are posted on the Board's website within 5 business days of receipt of license fee.
Step 14. Board mails wallet license to licensee within 6 weeks of receipt of license fee.

Payments may be made with a VISA, MasterCard, certified check or money order. Please make certified checks or money order payable to Professional Credential Services and include your SSN on the front of the payment. Fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
