FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. What more can you tell me about the examination?

A: For information concerning the examination content, scoring information and national pass rates please visit the National Council of Examiners for Engineering san Surveying (NCEES web site, www.ncees.org.

Q. How will I know if Professional Credential Services (PCS) has received my Application?

A: Upon receipt of your application, PCS will review your complete application (application, fees, amplified record, transcripts, references, etc.) to ensure that everything has been received. Applicants will be notified of any discrepancies by email or writing. Applicants will also receive email or written notification when their application has been sent to the Pennsylvania State Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists for the eligibility review.

Q. Which forms go to PCS and which go to the Pennsylvania State Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists?

A: All examination applications and supporting documentation must be sent to PCS. Examination documents that are sent to the Pennsylvania State Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists instead of PCS will cause a delay in the processing of your application. Reciprocity applications go directly to the board. For reciprocity, see the following question.

Q. Does the State of Pennsylvania offer reciprocity?

A: Yes, but PCS does not handle the reciprocity applications. Visit the state board’s website for details: www.dos.pa.gov/eng and click “Licensure Information”, scroll down, click on “Professional Engineer Reciprocity Application”.

All reciprocity applications should be sent to the Pennsylvania State Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists. Reciprocity documents that are sent to PCS instead of the Pennsylvania State Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists will cause a delay in the processing of your application.

Q. How will I know if I am eligible for the examination?

A: The Pennsylvania State Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists will notify you in writing, with further instructions on scheduling for the examination.

Q. I have been approved by the board, but cannot sit for this exam cycle. Do I have to re-apply with the board?

A: No. Once you have been approved by the board, you may schedule for whichever exam cycle you would like (during the registration time period for the corresponding exam).

Q. Can I schedule with PCS before I have been approved by the board?

A: No. you must wait to hear that you are eligible in order to schedule. If you do not hear from the board before the scheduling deadline, you will have to wait to schedule for the next exam cycle. There is no guarantee of any particular exam date.

Q. How will I know if I got the site I have chosen, and where exactly is the location of the examination?

A: An admission packet will be emailed approximately two weeks prior to the examination to the address on your NCEES account. Included in the packet will be the site address, maps, information regarding the administration of the examination and any other information you may need to know prior to the examination day.

Q. I am a Pennsylvania applicant. Can I take the examination in a state other than Pennsylvania?

A: No, proctoring into another state other than the state in which you applied to take the examination is no longer available unless you are military. If you have military orders, please contact NCEES to apply for this accommodation.

Q. I have been approved to take the examination in another state (other than Pennsylvania). Can I take the examination in Pennsylvania?

A: No, proctoring into another state other than the state in which you applied to take the examination is no longer available unless you are military. If you have military orders, please contact NCEES to apply for this accommodation.
